Definitions of Arizona Relay Terms
ACTIVE VEHICLE:
T
he vehicle carrying the 6 athletes (1-6 or 7-12) who are taking on the current legs. The Active Vehicle, after exchanging athletes, will go to the next 6 consecutive Exchange Points, until it then becomes the Resting Van. The first Active Vehicle will always carry athletes 1-6 and should be labeled with the team name and "A".
RESTING VEHICLE:
The vehicle carrying the 6 athletes (1-6 or 7-12) who are not taking on the current legs. This vehicle will meet the Active Vehicle at a Vehicle Exchange Point, who just finished exchanges at the previous 6 Exchange Points. At this point the Resting Vehicle will become the Active Vehicle. The first Resting Vehicle will always carry athlete’s 6-12 and should be labeled with the teamname AND "B".
LEG:
Distance in which the route has been segmented. The 24 Hours of Freedom Relay has 36 legs and each athlete is responsible for completing three.
EXCHANGE POINT:
The point in which one leg of the race ends and the next begins. The active athlete finishes at an Exchange Point and passes the wristband to the athlete competing in the next leg. There are 35 Exchange Points along the entire route.
RUNNER EXCHANGE AREA:
The small marked area in which both the athlete who just finished the leg and the athlete beginning the next leg exchange the wristband.
VEHICLE EXCHANGE:
The point in which the athlete from one vehicle passes the wristband to an athlete from the other vehicle in the runner exchange area. At this point, the Active Vehicle becomes the Resting Vehicle and the Resting Vehicle becomes the Active Vehicle. Vehicle Exchange Points are legs 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30.
VEHICLE ROUTE:
Specific driving directions that will guide vans (both Resting and Active Vehicle) to their corresponding and proper exchange points.
TEAM TIME SHEET:
A piece of paper designed to record the individual times of each team member. Please note that race management is only responsible for the entire team’s total time. If teams are interested in tracking individual leg times, that is the responsibility of the team. The team time sheet is given to team captains at the time of registration only for their convenience. The team time sheet is NOT an official document.

RISTBANDS:
The team "baton" that is passed along to all teammates in the exchange area. The wristband is given to the team captain at the registration table and should be seen on team's active athlete at all times.
