The 24 Hours of Freedom is an amazing team relay race for teams of 6-14 people running and hand-cycling from Flagstaff to Phoenix, Arizona. The race course follows parts of the Arizona Trail, single track, dirt roads, back roads, and frontage roads over 225 miles of awesome Arizona terrain. Teams compete in 4 categories taking from 24 to 36 hours to complete the course. The race is scheduled to run May 8-9, 2009, starting in Flagstaff and finishing the next day east of Phoenix. A celebration for the teams will be held at the finish line where food, music and sponsors and fans will gather to congratulate the teams.
Teams are composed of runners, hand-cyclists and one-offers who make their way in order over legs 1-36. A team of 12 will have racer number 1 compete on leg 1, getting to exchange number one after about a 4 mile leg, where they will hand the "baton" off to racer number 2 who takes off on leg number 2 -- and so forth throughout the race.
